Overwhelmed By What To Do Next? The Design Roadmap Can Help

Jan 07, 2022

I was thinking this morning about the essence of the Design Roadmap System.  I think at its core, it is taking an overwhelming design process and chunking it down into manageable, bite-sized pieces so you can show up every week knowing exactly what you need to do to keep everything on track.

It is deciding once, ahead of time, what you will do, when you will do it and how long it will take, and then it’s following the plan.  It sounds good on one hand, but on the other I bet you’re thinking:  “but that sounds so uncreative!”

It all depends on what you want to use your creativity for.  Let’s take a kitchen design analogy. We’re kitchen designers, and our job is to understand everything that needs to happen in our client’s kitchen: who will be using it, how they will be using it, and everything that will be stored there.  We think everything out in advance so that it is as smooth and easy for our clients to use their kitchen as possible - in essence, we don’t want our client wasting their creativity and energy trying to figure out where things are, we want them to use their creativity and energy on actually cooking.  We plan out everything in advance for them so they don’t have to reinvent the wheel each time they cook trying to figure out where everything should go.  We plan ahead so they can focus their energy and creativity toward the actual cooking part.

The Design Process is no different.

Here’s the thing:  you only have so much creativity and energy every week.  When your projects aren’t planned out, you’re using a ton of your creativity and energy just on figuring out what to do each week to keep all of your projects on track.  It’s just like wasting your energy trying to find a knife before you can cook something.  It takes a lot of time and energy to consider all of the possibilities and prioritize the next best thing to do.  Multiply that by all of your projects, and you’re probably hitting decision fatigue before you’ve even started doing your actual design work!

The bottom line is you’ve used up your energy and creativity in deciding WHAT to do, and there’s none left over for actually doing it.

There is a better way.

Just like you plan out a kitchen design in advance, you can plan out your design projects in advance. Decide ahead of time.  Show up each week already knowing exactly what the best next thing is to do on each of your projects to keep everything running smoothly.  Show up feeling refreshed and excited to use your energy and creativity on the actual design part.  That’s what we all want, right?

But how do we even do that?

The design process is complicated and there are so many moving parts.  Thinking about planning all of that out in advance for multiple projects is too exhausting to even think about.

Here’s where I can help.

I’ve already done that for you with my Design Roadmap System.  No need to reinvent the wheel!  I’ve already created a system that takes into account every part of managing Kitchen and Bath design projects and have been using it successfully in my own business for years.

In my upcoming Design Roadmap Course I’ll teach you all the things that you need to learn in order to be able to put all of the pieces together so you can show up each week knowing exactly what you need to do as well.  (Click here to learn more about the course)

I want to remove so much of the busywork, stress and overwhelm that keep you from showing up as the best designer that you can be.  You don’t need to spend your time figuring out a system for how to organize your projects, come up with an actionable plan and execute on them. I’ve already done that, so don’t worry about it.  Just learn the Design Roadmap System from someone who's done it countless times and check that off the list.  Then you get to show up with all of that under control.

We only have so much energy and creativity, don’t you want to use it on your actual designs?

I’m going to be teaching the Design Roadmap Course soon, so you’re going to want to click here to get on the waitlist for that so you’re the first to know when it’s available.

In the next few weeks, I’ll be breaking down the different parts of the Design Roadmap System, starting with the Design Process next week.  Stay tuned for that!
